Day 27: Rhine Gorge to CochemTue Aug 2, 2016

We left the Rhine Gorge in the very late afternoon sailing towards Koblenz arriving in Koblenz around mid-morning. Sailing past Koblenz, we turned into the Moselle River to disembark in the German town of Cochem, reportedly the prettiest town in the Moselle Valley. We took a short walk through the town to the unique wine-making exhibits at Schlagkamp Winery & Wine Museum, featuring one of the world’s largest collections of viticulture tools, before being entertained by the winemaker with the history of the winery while sampling the famous Moselle Valley wines. Later, we undertook a guided walking tour of the medieval Cochem Castle. The castle is perched on a hill overlooking the town offering fabulous views over the river. Pity about the gloomy weather.
