Canada & Alaska - 2014

Day 15: Whistler Wed Jul 02, 2014

We were on the bus early to enjoy breakfast at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre. After breakfast we walked through the Centre with a First Nations Guide who provided an insight into the heritage of Canada’s indigenous people. We have two “Freedom of Choice” Sightseeing packages today carrying forward the one we missed in Banff. We headed off to the Whistler Gondola to ride up to Whistler Summit. From there, we took the Peak2Peak Gondola and travelled across the valley to the top of Blackcomb mountain. Debbie managed the ride really well.

In the afternoon took our second “Freedom of Choice” Sightseeing package. We boarded a jeep for a ride, via mountain trails, to the top of Blackcomb mountain. We climbed nearly 4,000 ft as we moved from lush fields to rocky mountainsides. After a stop at Crystal Hut (elevation 5,986 ft) we headed back down the mountain to come close to two bears, with one having two trailing cubs.
